Building Services Engineer
£43,516 - £46,549

Working with the Facilities Management team you will provide advice on all aspects of the Services of a building. There is no typical day in that you could be advising on a packaged sewerage treatment plant in a remote location, to identifying carbon reduction opportunities in a Day Care Centre to advising a Library Services Manager on priorities to maintain and replace engineering systems.

The job will require regular communication to a range of both technical and non-technical audiences, representing the County Council at local meetings by providing specialist technical advice and information.

In addition to the technical competencies, the job requires commercial awareness to make judgements on the merits of continued maintenance or the full replacement of engineering systems. This will often require a whole building assessment and through-life costing to decide on the best long-term option, especially with consideration to reducing carbon emissions. This often requires the analysis and interpretation of varied and complex technical documents.

The County Council has a term maintenance contract to deliver planned preventative maintenance, respond to reactive works requests and undertake minor improvement works. The job requires regular assessment and direction of these activities to ensure safety and building compliance is maintained. Evaluation of asset condition data to support replacement funding bids is also a key part of the role.
